tephan Kesting operates Grapplearts.com and Beginning BJJ.com. He is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt and has practiced martial arts for over 30 years. He is a certified instructor in Erik Paulson’s Combat Submission Wrestling, a black belt in Kajukenbo Karate, an instructor in Dan Inosanto’s Jun Fan JKD program, Maphalindo Silat and Martial Arts Philippines. He also studied Japanese Judo, Russian Sambo, various Chinese Kung Fu systems, Brazilian Capoeira, Muay Thai Kickboxing and many other martial arts.
He is the author of over 20 articles that have been published online at USAdojo.com and published in print magazines such as Black Belt, Ultimate Grappling, Tapout Magazine and Ultimate Athlete, and has been interviewed by The Fightworks Podcast and Lockflow.com.

He has also been interviewed numerous times by blogs, radio shows, podcasts and news organizations.

Stephan Kesting holds a Master of Science from UBC, which may help explain his systematic approach to learning and teaching Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. In addition to theory, he has also successfully competed in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, submission wrestling and judo tournaments.

Stephan Kesting trains in gi and no-gi and has sparred with some MMA fighters.
